2019 ENZ Vineyard Old Vine Mourvedre
Enz Vineyard is home to some of the oldest vines in California, dating back to 1887 when they were planted by original homesteaders, after which the vines were rediscovered by the Enz family in 1967. Today, these vines are dry-farmed in a picturesque vineyard location tucked away in a valley with a sheltered basin, surrounded by mountains that block the site from the rest of civilization. One of the only vineyards in the Lime Kiln Valley AVA, Enz is virtually unknown to all but a select few. The opportunity to make wine from Enz Vineyard is a rare treat not afforded to many wineries, and the winemakers that have the privilege of working with this fruit produce some of the most interesting wines.
Our 2019 Enz Mourvedre is a beautiful wine with a bewitching nose of blackberry, boysenberry, leather, and a touch of tar. The palate is full-bodied and well-defined with an exquisite balance and purity. There is a minerality present that lends character to the wine. A touch of bitter cherry lingers on the very long and persistent finish. (Robert Parker: 95 points)
