2020 Solomon Hills Vineyard Pinot Noir
Introducing a new vineyard to the Cordant Pinot Noir family, Solomon Hills Vineyard is the most coastal vineyard in the Santa Maria Valley. Its weather can be cool and foggy, a region known for such trends. Recognized as being a particularly tricky vineyard, its berries and clusters stay small…but mighty! Your eyes will catch the medium translucent red coral coloring, edging out to a rusty crimson…some might say reminiscent of a certain football team’s colors, but we leave that up to your interpretation :) Once your intimate senses are inside the glass, there are notes of petrichor and forest floor, with traditional mushroom and black olive filling the nostrils. Transitioning into black current fruit as it opens in the glass, the palate experiences less earth than hinted from the nose. This full-bodied pinot tingles the mouth as it coats the inner cheeks, with extremely well-balanced acidity, cherry cola, and oak. Pay attention to the evolving layers that reveal themselves as the finish evolves. A terrific vineyard expression, this is a serious and dynamic, but lighter-in-style pinot noir that is fantastic on its own, but could be paired with something simple like a tomato basil risotto with balsamic glaze drizzle.
