For any Pinotphile, the holy grail is of course the single vineyard designation. We make numerous designated pinots, which we release in the fall, although we also recognize it is a disservice to solely taste through micro-terroirs. There is something to be learned from understanding the entirety of a broader region, in this case the Central Coast AVA, especially through the lens of Pinot Noir. As a result, we have crafted Hyperbole. To build this wine, we source fruit from as far south as Santa Barbara and as far North as Monterey. In fact, most of our designated Pinot Noirs are represented in Hyperbole, especially Radian and Escolle Vineyards, plus 3 other non-designated Pinot sites we source specifically to add regional complexity to Hyperbole. The region’s terroir spans 5 different soil types with varying aspects and elevations. We blind-taste all the component wines, rank them, and blend them to craft the exact wine we want to make, using only our intuition as a guide. Of course, always with respect for the vintage. Enjoy!
